For the third consecutive year, the Cultural Center Palatele Brâncovenești hosted on Thursday, September 29, 2016, the Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards, offered by Alexandrion Foundation. The red carpet was laid in the yard of Mogoșoaia Palace and the numerous guests attended an unforgettable event.

The president’s message

The president of the Foundation, Nawaf Salameh, noted that the “granting of the awards in Palatele Brâncovenești (Brâncoveanu Palaces) from Mogoșoaia to the most important scholars and artists of the Romanian people represents a wonderful tribute brought to the Saint Martyrs Brâncoveanu. It is a manner through which we can give to the Romanian history a contemporaneous dimension. The most important Romanian intellectuals received the award marked by the severe figure of Voda Brâncoveanu, a sign that his spirit continues to protect us, that he enlightens the way to the future of the Christian Orthodox people in Romania and Europe.”

Alexandrion Foundation Special Award

The special award of the Foundation was offered by the president of the Foundation, Nawaf Salmeh, to the Patriarch of Antioch and of the Entire East, His Beatitude Ioan the 10th, “for his permanent fight for peace and in order to stop the disaster at global level.
The second Special Award of the Foundation was offered to the Academician Eugen Doga. The daughter of the master was at Mogoșoaia to express thanks in his name.

“All nominees are influenced by the faith on which the greatness of the Romanian people is built. I must confess that all my ancestors on my mother’s side were servants at the Brâncoveanu Monastery in Sâmbăta de Sus. It is an important element in my biography”, the painter said.

The award was handed over by Nicolae Dabija, the chief editor of the publication from Bessarabia “Literatura și Arta” (Literature and Art), who supported, at the end of the 80s, the return to the writing of the Romanian language with Latin alphabet and its establishing as official language in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.

„Through his concerts we are introduced in the love chain of beauty” was presented by Grigore Leșe, member of the jury. Because of health reasons, Valentin Gheorghiu was not present at the ceremony. His award was taken over by his wife.

He brought to the scene the image of the relation between the generation of the architects who modeled the inter-war Bucharest and the current generations: “My entire career was marked by the professors from the faculty. They were trained as sculptors and engineers in the inter-war period. Their lessons of professionalism were incredible, but their lessons of behavior towards kids like us, the manner in which they saw the potential in us and the manner in which they encouraged us, marked me forever”.
