Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards are offered annually by Alexandrion Foundation since 2014 and have the purpose to gratify the lifetime work and dedication of the highbrows in Romania and abroad, who contributed to the development of various knowledge fields. Important works from the fields of science, history, culture, music and arts in our country are rewarded, in a symbolic manner, with trophies, original bronze works, made by the sculptor Ioan Bolborea. Additionally, every winner chosen by the jury receives from the organizer, Alexandrion Foundation, a sponsorship to implement a project.

The president’s message

In the opening speech, Nawaf Salameh, the founder and president of the Foundation, stated the reason for which he initiated the Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards: “as a sign of piousness towards the sacrifice of the great founder, but also respect for the spiritual values of Romania. Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards have the purpose to honour and to reward the most deserving personalities and works in the fields of history, arts and architecture.”

Why the Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards?

The idea of organizing the gala to honour Romanian cultural values belongs to the president of the Alexandrion Foundation, Nawaf Salameh. He was rewarded by the blissful patriarch Daniel, patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, with “The Order and Medal of the Brâncoveni Holy Martyrs” after Alexandrion Foundation contributed substantially to the re-editing by the Romanian Patriarchate of the “Bucharest Bible”. Thus the distinction offered by the majors of the Romanian Church inspired the president Nawaf Salameh to give in turn and the martyr voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu naturally became the patron of the event that rewards and honours Romanian values.

Awarding mechanism

The proposals and entries for the laureates of “Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards” are made every year online and by physical correspondence, on the website of Cotidianul newspaper, partner of the event since the beginning, and via the website of the foundation. Subsequently, a jury consisting of nine renowned persons of the Romanian science and culture, is the one which validates the annual awards. At the first three editions of the Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards Gala, there were granted seven awards from several fields, plus a special award. For the first time, starting with 2017, there shall be nine trophies. Medicine and Economics shall be added to Literature, History, Art, Music, Architecture, Acting and Directing.

The future of the “Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards”

Starting 2017, the “Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards” Gala starts to extend. Ceremonies as the ones organized in Romania shall be also organized in Europe and in the United States. Therefore, until 2018, Alexandrion Foundation shall host similar events in London, Berlin and New York.
